For me, Zoroastrianism is best summed up by their simple but powerful
prayer, "Ashem Vohu" ("Blessed is he who is righteous for the sake of
righteousness"). For those who wish to unwind their karma, focusing on
the Zoroastrian goal of "righteousness" will go along way in achieving it.
Remember that this was the first path to focus on joy, love, peace, and
happiness as goals. Most importantly, this path came up with the innovation
of annual festivals of celebration that created "holy-days" like Christmas.
We pray to God to eradicate all the misery in the world: that
understanding triumph over ignorance, that generosity triumph
over indifference, that trust triumph over contempt, and that
truth triumph over falsehood.
I pray for the entire creation... for the generation which is now
alive, for that which is just coming into life, and for that which
shall be hereafter.
And I pray for that sanctity which leads to
prosperity, and which has long afforded shelter, which goes on hand
in hand with it, which joins it in its walk, and of itself becoming
its close companion as it delivers forth its precepts, bearing every
form of healing virtue which comes to us. And so the greatest, and
the best, and most beautiful benefits of sanctity fall likewise to
our lot.
With bended knees, with hands outstretched,
do I yearn for the effective expression of the holy spirit working within me:
For this love and understanding, truth and justice;
for wisdom to know the apparent from the real
that I might alleviate the sufferings of men on earth...
God is love, understanding, wisdom, and virtue.
Let us love one another, let us practice mercy and forgiveness,
let us have peace, born of fellow-feeling...
Let my joy be of altruistic living, of doing good to others.
Happiness is unto him from who happiness proceeds to any other human being.
I worship you in every religion that teaches your laws and praises your glory.
I worship you in every plant whose beauty reflects your beauty.
I worship you in every event which is caused by your goodness and kindness.
I worship you in every place where you dwell.
And I worship you in every man and woman who seeks
to follow your way of righteousness.
Order our lives by your wisdom,
and care for our needs by your bounty.
Enable us to live in peace with one another,
so that we can help each other in our work.
Take from us all threat of war and famine.
Make our animals fat and healthy,
and make our crops grow abundantly.
In each village set a man of honesty as chief,
and let every person respect his authority.
Above all, make us holy in all our thoughts and words and deeds.
