For me, the beauty of the Methodist path is its focus on individual
responsibility for the "betterment" of society. This path takes its
name from the "rule and method" that govern the lives of its followers.
The goal of these rules and methods is to actively "help us to retune
our lives to the silent music of God's beckoning presence." It is the
best possible karma to "see and meet many people" and to remember that
"in them" we always are "meeting" God. Karmically, seeing God in all
others creates true greatness.
O Lord, open our lips and we shall praise your name.
Send out your light and truth to be my guide;
let them lead me to your holy hill, to your dwelling place.
Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:
as it was in the beginning, is now, and shall be for ever. Amen.
Lord of all life, I use thousands of words each day yet so few of
them are about you. Forgive me. I see and meet many people but forget
that in them I could be meeting you. I busy myself in so much rushed
activity that I blank out the silence within. Forgive me. Help me to
retune our lives to the silent music of your beckoning presence. Amen.
Blessed are you, Lord our God, Giver of life, Father, Son and Holy
Spirit. At the opening of this day you call us out of darkness into
your marvelous light. Blessed are you for ever and ever. Amen.
Lord our God, as with all creation, we offer you the life of this
new day, give us grace to love and serve you to the praise of Jesus
Christ our Lord. Amen.
Eternal Father, strong to save,
Whose arm hath bound the restless wave,
Who biddest the mighty ocean deep,
Its own appointed limits keep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!
O Christ! Whose voice the waters heard,
And hushed their raging at Thy Word,
Who walked on the foaming deep,
And calm amidst its rage didst sleep;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!
Most Holy Spirit! Who didst brood,
Upon the chaos dark and rude,
And bid its angry tumult cease,
And give, for wild confusion, peace;
Oh, hear us when we cry to Thee,
For those in peril on the sea!
O Trinity of love and power!
Our family shield in danger’s hour;
From rock and tempest, fire and foe,
Protect us wheresoever we go;
Thus evermore shall rise to Thee!
Glad hymns of praise from land and sea.
For the beauty of the earth,
For the glory of the skies,
For the love which from our birth,
Over and around us lies,
Lord of all, to thee we raise,
This our grateful hymn of praise.
For the beauty of each hour,
Of the day and of the night,
Hill and vale, and tree and flower,
Sun and moon and stars of light,
Lord of all, to thee we raise,
This our grateful hymn of praise.
For the joy of human love,
Brother, sister, parent, child,
Friends on earth, and friends above,
Pleasures pure and undefiled,
Lord of all, to thee we raise,
This our grateful hymn of praise.
For each perfect gift of thine,
To our race so freely given,
Graces human and divine,
Flowers of earth and buds of heaven,
Lord of all, to thee we raise,
This our grateful hymn of praise.
For thy Church which evermore,
Lifteth holy hands above,
Offering up on every shore,
Her pure sacrifice of love,
Lord of all, to thee we raise,
This our grateful hymn of praise.
