Christianity - Protestantism - Anglican Prayers The Beauty of This Path:
For me, the Anglican "Book of Common Prayer" is one of the best
prayer books ever written. As a primarily English speaking person,
the simple, heartfelt prayers use the beauty and the complexity of
this language to deeply inspire religious devotion. Although this
book has since been modernized, the original version (from 1662) has
been continuously in use and is still preferred by many today. If
you are looking to compose your own prayers, the Anglican "Book of
Common Prayer" is a great place to start. Prayer Index: Christianity - Protestantism - Anglican Prayers
Prayer for Peace
O God, who art the author of peace and lover of concord, in knowledge
of whom standeth our eternal life, whose service is perfect freedom;
Defend us Thy humble servants in all assaults of our enemies; that we,
surely trusting in Thy defence, may not fear the power of any adversaries,
through the might of Jesus Christ our Lord. O Lord, our heavenly Father, Almighty and everlasting God, who hast safely brought us to the beginning of this day; Defend us in the same with Thy mighty power; and grant that this day we fall into no sin, neither run into any kind of danger; but that all our doings, being ordered by Thy governance, may be righteous in Thy sight; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen. O God, from whom all holy desires, all good counsels, and all just works do proceed; Give unto your servants that peace which the world cannot give; that both our hearts may be set to obey your commandments, and also, that by you we being defended from the fear of our enemies may pass our time in rest and quietness; through the merits of Jesus Christ our Saviour. Amen. Lighten our darkness, we beseech thee O Lord; we pray: and by thy great mercy defend us from all perils and dangers of this night; for the love of thy only Son our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen. Prayer for All Sorts and Conditions of Men
O God, the Creator and Preserver of all mankind, we humbly beseech
thee for all sorts and conditions of men; that thou wouldest be pleased
to make Thy ways known unto them, Thy saving health unto all nations. Eternal God and Father, by whose power we are created and by whose love we are redeemed: guide and strengthen us by your Spirit, that we may give ourselves to your service, and live this day in love to one another and to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
O God, who knows us to be set in the midst of so many and great
dangers that by reason of the frailty of our nature we cannot always
stand upright: grant us such strength and protection, as may support
us in all dangers and carry us through all temptations; through Jesus
Christ our Lord. Amen. O God, whose blessed Son was manifested that he might destroy the works of the devil, and make us the sons of God, and heirs of eternal life; Grant us, we beseech thee, that, having this hope, we may purify ourselves, even as he is pure; that, when he shall appear again with power and great glory, we may be made like unto him in his eternal and glorious kingdom; where with thee, O Father, and thee, O Holy Spirit, he liveth and reigneth, ever one God, world without end. Amen. O Lord Jesu Christ, who at thy first coming didst send thy messenger to prepare thy way before thee; Grant that the ministers and stewards of thy mysteries may likewise so prepare and make ready thy way, by turning the hearts of the disobedient to the wisdom of the just, that at thy second coming to judge the world we may be found an acceptable people in thy sight, who livest and reignest with the Father and the Holy Spirit ever, one God, world without end. Amen. Prayer of Gratitude for Scripture Blessed Lord, who hast caused all holy Scriptures to be written for our learning: Grant that we may in such wise hear them, read, mark, learn and inwardly digest them, that by patience, and comfort of thy holy Word, we may embrace, and ever hold fast the blessed hope of everlasting life, which thou hast given us in our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen. Prayer of General Thanksgiving
Almighty God, Father of all mercies, we your servants
give you most humble and hearty thanks for all your goodness and
loving-kindness to us and to all people; |
