For me, the beauty of the Hindu path is their teaching about reincarnation
and karma. From the Hindus came the knowingness that the Earth is a
giant schoolhouse, that we are here to learn lessons in love through
the means of cause and effect
(karma), and
that once we have learned these lessons we escape the cycles of death
and rebirth
(reincarnation).
Their beliefs are best summed up by this statement: "today well spent
makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a vision
of hope."
O God, lead us from the unreal to the Real.
O God lead us from darkness to light.
O God, lead us from death to immortality.
Shanti, Shanti, Shanti unto all.
O Lord God almighty, May there be peace in celestial regions.
May there be peace on earth. May the waters be appeasing.
May herbs be wholesome, and May trees and plants bring peace to all.
May all beneficent beings bring peace to us.
May your Vedic Law propagate peace all through the world.
May all things be a source of peace to us.
And may your peace itself bestow peace on all, and
May that peace come to me also.
Listen to the salutation to the dawn,
Look to this day for it is life, the very life of life,
In its brief course lie all the verities and realities of our existence.
The bliss of growth, the splendor of beauty,
For yesterday is but a dream and tomorrow is only a vision,
But today well spent makes every yesterday a dream of happiness
and every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look well therefore to this day.
Such is the salutation to the dawn.
Almighty Lord, if we offer you a devoted mind and heart,
you will offer to us every blessing on earth and in heaven.
You grant our deepest wishes.
You give food to the body and peace to the soul.
You look upon us with the love of a mother for her children.
You created this beautiful earth all around us.
In every plant and animal, every tree and bird, your spirit dwells.
You have revealed yourself to me, infusing my soul with the knowledge
that you are the source of all blessing.
And so I sing your praises day and night.
I who am feeble, glorify you who are powerful.
I who am nothing, devote myself to you who are everything.
May the winds, the oceans, the herbs, and night and days, the mother
earth, the father heaven, all vegetation, the sun, be all sweet to us.
Let us follow the path of goodness for all times, like the sun and
the moon moving eternally in the sky.
Let us be charitable to one another.
Let us not kill or be violent with one another.
Let us know and appreciate the points of view of others.
And let us unite.
May the God who is friendly, benevolent, all-encompassing, measurer
of everything, the sovereign, the lord of speech, may He shower His
blessings on us...
Oh Lord, remove my indiscretion and arrogance, control my mind.
Put an end to the snare of endless desires.
Broaden the sphere of compassion and help me to cross the ocean of existence.
Visnujana Maharaja singing his heart out in the glistening sun:
O Lord, the sun's effulgence hides Your face.
Your blissful form lies far beyond my eyes.
Now Your wonders call my heart's embrace.
As dawn displays Your beauty in the skies.
The rainbow shows the colors of Your dress.
The movements of the moon reflect Your mind.
Your smiling is the cause of happiness,
and love exists because You are so kind.
O Govinda, within my heart, celestial herdsman, lotus-eyed one,
Your precious gift of love impart.
You who stand behind the sun.
O Lord, You're the one.
You're the one in my heart.
The rolling rivers flow forth from Your veins,
the clouds that fill the sky come from Your hair,
the seeds of life are watered by Your rains,
and from Your breathing blows the mighty air.
My Lord, You are the source of all I see.
Your movements are the passing days of time.
You are the resting place of all that be,
and love exists because You are so kind.
O Govinda, within my heart, celestial herdsman, lotus-eyed one,
Your precious gift of love impart.
You stand behind the sun.
O Lord, You're the one.
You are the one in my heart.
Supreme God, your light is brighter than the sun, your purity whiter
than mountain snow, you are present wherever I go. All people of wisdom
praise you.
So I too put faith in all your words, knowing that everything you teach
is true. Neither the angels in heaven nor the demons in hell, can know
the perfection of your wisdom, for it is beyond all understanding.
Only your Spirit knows you; only you can know your true self.
You are the source of all being, the power of all power, the ruler of
all creatures. So you alone understand what you are. In your mercy
reveal to me all that I need to know, in order to find peace and joy.
Tell me the truths that are necessary for the world in which I live.
Show me how I can meditate upon you, learning from you the wisdom that
I need. I am never tired of hearing you, because your words bring life.
I see you in all things, O my God. Infinity itself is your creation.
And all around are the signs of your infinity: the bursting life of
countless plants; the unending song of innumerable birds; the tireless
movement of animals and insects. Nowhere can I see a beginning or an
end of your creation.
I see the infinite beauty which infuses the entire universe. You are
the king of the universe, and its beauty is your crown and sceptre. I
bow down in homage and adoration. You are immortal, imperishable, the
summit of all knowledge, the power behind all movement. You designed
all things, and set them in motion.
The sun is your eye during the day, and the moon your eye at night.
The wind is your breath, and the fertile brown earth is your heart.
By your power all things are created, and by your power they are
destroyed. Birth and death are in your hands. I tremble with awe and
wonder when I contemplate your power.
As the waters of a river flow to the sea, the path determined by the
line of the valley, so we pass through life to death, our destiny
mapped out by your will. Lord, reveal yourself to me. Show me that
love, not hatred, inspires your creation. Show me that mercy, not
anger, guides my life.
I do not ask to understand the mystery of your works;
I want only to be assured of your goodness.
